Deploy a PAW Migration Package with Lifecycle Manager

The Lifecycle Management tool in Planning Analytics Workspace allows you to create new snapshots, to export and import them and finally to deploy them to PAW. This post deals with how to deploy an already existing snapshot to Planning Analytics Workspace. This post assumes that you already have created a deployment migration package using Lifecycle Manager and imported it. If you still need to do those steps, please see this post for creation and this post for import..

How to Deploy a Planning Analytics Workspace Migration Package with Lifecycle Manager

This explains the steps required to deploy an existing lifecycle manager created deployment package.

  1. Open the Administration tile in Planning Analytics Workspace

If you are not there already, open Administration in PAW PAaaS Administration Tile

  2. Select Lifecycle Management

Likewise, if you are not there, open Lifecycle Management

  3. Select the snapshot you want to Deploy in Lifecycle Management

All available snapshots will be listed on the left and choosing one will list the contents of it on the right.

  4. Click the Deploy button

If this is the snapshot you want to deploy, hit the Deploy button a the bottom of the contents list.

  5. Select the deployment location

On this next screen you have a couple of selections to make. The first is whether you want it deployed to your Personal folder or to a Shared folder.

Then you need to enter a folder name for the snapshot to be deployed into. For this I am going to enter today’s date again 20240525 as once deployed, then I will need to move the objects out of there so they are in the correct locations. This must be a unique name.

Finally, you need to identify the target environment (note this is not the database, that is on the next screen).

  6. Hit the Next button

Once your target Folder and Environment are selected, hit the big blue Next button.

  7. Map the Database

The final step is to identify the database you would like to deploy the snapshot on top of. This will connect all the PAW assets with the underlying TM1 model objects.

  8. Click the Deploy button

After you have selected the database you want to deploy into, just click the blue Deploy button. This will complete the deployment of your package through Lifecycle Management.

  9. Review the Deployment and Move Objects

After the deployment is finished, go to Reports and Analysis and you will see the folder there that you crated above. Open it and the “shared” or “personal” folder below.

  10. Select the Newly Deployed PAW Assets to Move

Now you can relocate these PAW assets to the correct location in this Planning Analytics Workspace environment. Just select what you need and click Copy or Move in the blue bar.

  11. Navigate to the Target Location

Find the location where you want to leave the PAW assets you have deployed. Here I am choosing a folder called Sales Analysis underneath the root Shared folder.

  12. Click Move or Copy

Once at the desired target location, hit either the Move or Copy buttons to place the assets into the correct folder.

  13. Set Permissions

The final step is to assign permissions to these assets. Choose to either Inherit permissions or Keep existing.

  14. Check the Deployment

Finally, go to the location you have moved things to and open a book to ensure all is working correctly.

  15. Repeat for Other Assets

The steps immediately above (where you moved the books in Reports and Analysis) did not relocate any Workbenches. Repeat the steps above to relocate Workbenches out of the temporary deployment folder.

  16. Delete the Temporary Deployment Folder

Once all assets have been relocated out of the temporary deployment folder, you can delete it. Just select the temporary folder and hit the Delete button in the blue ribbon and confirm with the red Delete button in the following dialog box.
