IBM’s Planning Analytics as a Service (PAaaS) is available on AWS (and soon to be Azure). It is deployed through IBM’s Cloud Pak for Data and clients to not get access to the backend, the way we have traditionally had access to the file system for TM1. So how do you do a restore a database in Planning Analytics as a Service when you don’t have backend access?
How to do a Restore of Planning Analytics as a Service Database
Time needed: 5 minutes
To backup your Planning Analytics as a Service database from AWS or Azure.
- Take a Backup of the Target Database
We all have stories of how we have deployed a backup and only after we login do we realise that we have stuffed up and uploaded the Dev model to the Prod server and blown away all the live data. Don’t let this be you. Take a backup of the target database before you start anything else. For instructions, please see this post.
- Login to Planning Analytics as an Administrator
- Click on the Administration tile on the PA Home Screen
- Select the Database to be Backed up
- Click on the Backup Tab
- Upload the Backup to be Restored (if Required)
If you are restoring from a different database (for example on a Dev server and you want to restore it to Prod), then you need to upload the zip file after you have downloaded the zip in your source environment.
If you need to create that zip of the other database, please see this post.
If you have already uploaded the zip, continue at step 8 below.
To Upload the zip file, please click the little up arrow next to the Create button on the top left of the Backup tab. - Wait for the Upload to Complete
This will take a few minutes, depending on the size of the zip.
- Select the Backup to be Restored
If you already have uploaded the backup zip file, then you can continue here.
On the Backups tab, select the backup to be restored. Then click the three vertical dots on the right side of the screen, beside the zip to be restored.
- Confirm that you Have Chosen the Correct Target
This is the most important step of the entire process. Make sure that you are targeting the correct database on the correct environment. So, for example, you are targeting the Nebula Fit database on the Production environment.
- Wait until the Restore is Complete
