If you are using IBM Planning Analytics on Cloud (on IBM Cloud) or IBM Planning Analytics as a Service (on AWS or Azure), you can download Planning Analytics for Excel from the administration panel of Planning Analytics Workspace. This download can be used personally, or an IT Administrator can deploy it for all Planning Analytics for Excel users. This post explains how to download it from Planning Analytics Workspace.
How to Download IBM Planning Analytics for Excel from Planning Analytics Workspace

This are the detailed steps to download Planning Analytics for Excel from Planning Analytics Workspace. It is applicable when Planning Analytics is deployed on IBM Cloud or as Planning Analytics as a Service.
- Login to Planning Analytics Workspace
Login to PAW for your Planning Analytics on Cloud or Planning Analytics as a Service.
- Go to PAW Admin
- Open Excel and Customisations
- Select the Version of Planning Analytics for Excel
- Download the Required Version of PAX/PAfE
- Go to your Downloads Folder
- Copy the Download Zip File
- Paste it into your PAX Folder
If you don’t have a PAX Folder, create one at the root of your C Drive.
- Extract the PAX Download Zip
- Extract the 32 Bit version of Planning Analytics for Excel
- Extract the 64 Bit version of PAX/PAfE
- Check Your Version of Excel
In Excel, go to File, Account and click on About. This will bring up a dialog with the version of Excel displayed. You are looking to see if it is 32 or 64 bit. In the screenshot below, it is 64-bit.
- Copy the Required Extracted xll File
- Paste Selected xll File to the PAX Folder
- Rename Copied File as “Planning Analytics for Excel”
- Create Shortcut of Renamed File
- Rename Shortcut to Remove ” – Shortcut”
- Place Shortcut in Your Windows Start Folder
Follow the instructions on this post to place this shortcut in your Windows Start Folder. Then when you need to update again, just follow the instructions above to download, to place it into your PAX folder and rename it. The shortcut will then connect automatically with it.
